Concept Design: Finetoday Malaysia Booth Concourse Concept

Finetoday MY asked my company Red Dino to propose a few concepts of booth design in mall's concourse space

Role

Concept Designer

Industry

Beauty & Health

Duration

1 months

Stage 1. Client Onboarding

The client - Finetoday have consult my boss on what they need. They gave my boss potential space of their booth which will be in Midvalley Centrecourt near LG store. And their main theme is super general - JAPAN. The objective of this booth is to promote 4 of top brands under their company which are: Tsubaki, Fino, Ma Cherie and Senka.

Stage 2. Design Strategy

Because we can do many things with JAPAN as a main theme. I asked the team to provide 3 concepts. And the concept I present here is fully my own idea and concept. The other 2 concepts are by my team and I will not take credits and show them here. And my concept name is; Serenity of Temple and Cherry Blossoms.

Stage 3. Designing a Structure

  • Concept Overview: I want this concept to capture the essence of Japan cultures that globally known to us. And I think the best element to encapsulate that essence is Japan’s iconic temple structures. The shape of their roofs, the masterful woodcraft of the pillars and window screens. It describe perfectly to what Japan uniquenuess really are. But, this structure alone not enough so I add Sakura tree as main attraction to grab people eyes. Japan always widely known for its sakura trees. The pink color of their petals always attract people gazes and they bring the feel of coziness when the petals falls. Thus, I believe these 2 combinations will bring the experience of japan’s serenities.

  • Structures: The structure will follow the shape of pagoda temple which using octagon shape. The area will be an enclosed space with one way flow of entering and exiting the space. This to ensure audience get the full experience of the all the brands as we want they to feel like they are entering a museum or similar experience when you walking in IKEA. The sakura tree will play a role in attracting people so its important to have a sakura tree (artifial) with widest width as possible.

Stage 4. Visitor Experience

When you enter the front door, you will be greet with a bench and traditional vertical painting and it will be compliment together with the sakura tree behind it. All these elements will be the main role to make the people stop, take photo and ‘trap’ them to experience this ‘temple’ fully. But, one most important element would be the sakura tree, because we need the tree to look as majestic it can be, the branches and petals need to be as wide and as thick as possible. The height of the tree not important as it will be hidden and supported inside the center pillar.

On the back exterior, the center will be placed with slat wall with a gap to allow people outside to have a peek into the structure. A bench and lanterns will also be placed here so people will stop to rest, take photos and hopefully there will take peek inside and be curious enough to enter the space. We call this ‘The Rear Tease’.

On the exterior of the other walls, there are many ways we can utilise them creatively. We are thinking to add hand fan with brand logo, or putting wooden kanji nametag with brand tagline or a creative tear-off poster that maybe allow people to tear-off a discounted vouchers. We also wanted to stick on a few creative illustration poster that maybe have info regarding the products or the promotion.

To keep it short, I had created full experience details for exterior and interior of the booth.

Stage 5. Submission

So once my part are done and my team also have done all of their concepts, it was my tasked to compile all concepts and discuss with team what are the rationale behind their concepts. Then i create a deck to be submit to the client.

Final Say,

Other than Kiehls Special Visual Merchandising Projects, this is one of the projects that I become passionate about and many ideas and ambitions come to me during the process of finishing the whole concept direction.

Sadly, we never heard from the client anymore. So this project stop until concepts submission only.
